New School Year, New Challenges
with Supt. Auzqui
Aug 1, 2025
With Johnson County Fair & Rodeo 2025 in the books, it means the start of the new school year is coming right up.
School starts August 18 and Superintendent Charles Auzqui is already in high-gear.
Buzzing about a refreshed leadership ‘dream team’ who are united by a sense of common purpose and commitment, overhauled and improved internal systems, and a balanced budget following a $1.5m deficit, Auzqui digs down on some of the big issues facing JCSD#1.
New legislation came into effect July 1 allowing concealed carry of firearms for those with a permit. Does Auzqui think this make schools safer and how has JCSD#1 responded to this significant change?
Education in Wyoming is feeling the pinch, over 70% of school districts in the state are experiencing a decline in students, and JCSD#1 won’t be exempt from daunting challenges that come with falling student enrollment. The funding model for education is tied to student numbers – and does not compensate for fixed overheads such as keeping buildings open and sufficient staff.
