Big Changes Ahead?
JCSD#1 Graduation Requirements
Nov 12, 2024

Last Monday, JCSD#1 Board of Trustees voted unanimously to direct Superintendent Charles Auzqui to revamp graduation requirements and revise all related policies. But what does that really mean for students, staff, and families in Buffalo and Kaycee?

Superintendent Auzqui has proposed a significant shift, reducing the required graduation credits from 28 to 24 over the next four years. That’s not just a number— this decision could shake up schedules, class offerings, and maybe even how students experience high school.

What’s behind this change?  What is it intended to achieve?

What’s the process been? Who’s had a say in this decision, and how did we get here?

What could the ripple effects be? Will students see fewer elective options? Could this mean changes to how many classes they take each day?

And the big question—will students lose out or benefit from this shift?

Superintendent Auzqui and Board Chairman Travis Pearson break it down, sharing the reasoning, the potential outcomes, and what’s next for JCSD#1.
