Emergency Response for Disabled People
A Panel Discussion
Dec 12, 2024

What happens when an accident happens or disaster strikes? —and not everyone can hear the alarm, see the exits, or move to safety with ease? That question was at the heart of a panel discussion of leaders of first response teams convened by Buffalo Senior Center.

Representatives from Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Buffalo Police Department, ambulance and fire services, and the Emergency Management Coordinator broke down how they address the unique challenges of assisting disabled individuals during emergencies—and the critical role Johnson County Dispatch plays at the center of it all.

Dispatch shared insights into their processes, including what helps them respond effectively and what doesn’t.

The discussion became a dynamic exchange of ideas, innovative communication methods harnessing new technology, and practical suggestions for improving emergency response for everyone.

Listen in as our community’s first responders reveal how they’re working to ensure no one is left behind when it matters most, and from individuals in the community who describe their personal experiences, challenges, and suggestions for overcoming hurdles.
