BUFFALO MAIN ST PROJECT
Road Improvement 2024-25

WHAT IS GOING ON? WHY?

WHY?
Much of Buffalo’s Main Street’s existing road surface from north to south is in poor condition and needs replacing.

HOW LONG?
This is a two-year pavement/preservation project over construction seasons 2024-2025.

WHERE?
From mile marker 298.02 to mile marker 301.34. See map for details.
BUFFALO DOWNTOWN MAIN ST work will take place summer 2025.

IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDE:
- Repaving
- ADA ramp improvements at intersections
- Minor bridge repairs to Clear Creek bridge
- Replacement of Cemetery Creek culvert
- Upgraded traffic signal at Hart St.

ESTIMATED COST: $11M

SATELLITE PROJECTS:
For cost efficiency, an agreement with Johnson County Road and Bridge has been added to this project for
- ROCK CREEK ROAD mill & overlay roadway 1-90 Interchange to 200 ft north of Rock Creek Bridge (0.65 miles)
- NORTH BYPASS mill & overlay (0.61 miles)
- SOUTH BYPASS mill & overlay (1.95 miles)
+ some reconstruction in areas of settlement damage.

CITY OF BUFFALO will utilize city dollars for
- HART ST TO FORT ST water main upgrade
- TRAIL TO HOLLAND ST replace storm sewer

CITY OF BUFFALO will use Context Sensitive Amenities (CSA) funds to
- DOWNTOWN AREA replace street lighting

WHERE?

2024: PHASE 1

PHASE 1: Construction Season 2024
Complete Paving:
- Parmalee St to I-25 South Interchange
- I-90 North Interchange to Hart St
- North and South Bypass route and Rock Creek Rd

2024: PHASE 2

PHASE 2: Construction Season 2025
- Replace culvert at Cemetery Creek
- New waterlines from Hart St to Fort St
- New traffic signals and signage at Hart St
- Pave Main St from Hart St to Parmalee St
- Upgrade ADA ramps and sidewalks

IMPACT & TRAFFIC DELAYS

DRIVERS SHOULD EXPECT

Construction from 07:00 am - 07:00 pm Mon-Fri,
- possible Sat construction
- no Sunday construction
- no construction Thurs July 4
No construction on North Bypass Fri July 26 - Sun Aug 4 for JC Fair & Rodeo
Reduced speed limits for traffic
Flagging Operations
Occasional lane closures

TRAFFIC DELAYS

As with all construction, delays are likely due to reduced speed limits through work zones
Occasional delays
Heavy truck traffic
Poor road surface conditions

No alternative routes or detours are anticipated

» West Fetterman and Angus Streets are CLOSED

» Utility & sidewalk improvements:

⇒ at First Northern Bank & opposite Crazy Woman Sq

⇒ north side Fort St and Holland St

» Downtown Main St is OPEN from Fort St to north side of Clear Creek Bridge

EXPECT:

→ Clear Creek Bridge to Angus St traffic snakes east to west

→ West Fetterman and Angus Streets closed

→ Fort St traffic signal flashing red:
⇒ head to head traffic with flagging operations
⇒ tight turning radius at intersection

→ Traffic switches for utility work

→ Motorists should expect rough surfaces until early May

→ Access to side streets will be open

→ Sidewalks will be open - except for isolated repairs

→ Limited parking in downtown area

→ NO parking in work zone

» Main St residents/businesses will receive notice 48 hours ahead of any water shutoff «

Construction Hours: Mon-Sat 7:00 am - 7:00 pm
